Calhoun County, AL – Faith Christian boys win sectional tennis title; Jacksonville, Oxford, Piedmont, White Plain win in softball; Donoho, Ohatchee and Ragland win in baseball

Faith Christian’s boys won the Class 1A-3A Section 3 tennis tournament Tuesday, edging second place Alabama School of Cyber Technology 45-40. Whitesburg Christian Academy scored 32 points. Faith’s Eli Mitchell and Josh Goode teamed to win the No. 1 doubles title, beating Decatur Heritage’s duo 6-0, 6-2. Other bracket winners for Faith included Joshua Muse-Aidan Elliott at No. 3 doubles, Josh Goode at No. 2 singles and Aidan Elliott at No. 6 singles. Faith will travel to Mobile on to compete in the state tournament April 24-25. This story will be updated as more of the day’s results come in.

CLASS 6A, SECTION 3: At Pell City, Oxford’s boys qualified for state, finishing to Pell City. Oxford winners included Kye McEwen in No. 1 singles and Parth Patel in No. 3 singles. Runners up included Jackson Randall in No. 2 singles, Om Patel in No. 4 singles, Noah Brothers in No. 5 singles, Lucas Somers in No. 6 singles, McEwen-P.Patel in No. 1 doubles, Randall-O.Patel in No 2 doubles and Brothers-Payton Butterworth in No 3 doubles.

Softball

PLEASANT VALLEY 8, ALEXANDRIA 7: Macey Roper tripled and scored on Rebekah Gannaway’s single to give Pleasant Valley (13-10) the lead in the top of the sixth inning. The go-ahead run followed the Raiders’ five-run fifth inning, which featured Lily Henry’s RBI double, Madyson Cromer’s RBI single, Sydney Beason’s run-scoring sacrifice fly and Haylie Lee’s RBI single. Alexandria (20-16) put up five runs in the bottom of the fourth, with Lauren Weber’s RBI single, Briley Bright’s run-scoring grounder and Jill Cockrell’s two-run triple. Cockrell scored on a throwing error. Alexandria got home runs from Allyssa Hunt and Charlee Parris among its 12 hits. Brenlee Sparks, Clancy Bright, Hunt, Weber and Cockrell each had multiple hits. Weber went 3-for-3.

OXFORD 7, CLAY-CHALKVILLE 1: Raina Zachery and Kaelyn Crossley comined to hold Clay-Chalkville to three hits with eight strikeouts as Oxford improved to 21-6. Adajiah Wilson went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs, and Kenlee Rodgers drove in two runs. Berkley Mooney doubled and scored a run.

PIEDMONT 20, WELLBORN 4: Sarah Goss and Savannah Smith each had four hits and four RBIs as Piedmont improved to 27-10. Goss was 4-for-5 with a home run, triple, four runs and four RBIs. Smith was 4-for-5 wth a home run, two doubles, two runs and four RBIs. The Bulldogs got several other big performances at the plate: Cacey Brothers 2-for-3, triple, run, RBI; Cayla Brothers 2-for-3, run; Armoni Perry, 1-for-3, two runs, two RBIs; Ava Pope, 2-for-3, double, two runs; Abby Baird, 2-for-3, two runs, two RBIs; Jaycee Glover, 2-for-2, double, one run, one RBI; Amarae Champion, 1-for-1, run, two RBIs; and Jenna Calvert, 1-for-3, double. Piedmont had 21 hits.

Carson Young pitched four innings, allowing six hits and no walks with one strikeout. For Wellborn, Jaylyn Chattin was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Cassidy Gray went 1-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI, and Autumn Parsons was 1-for-3 with a double.

WHITE PLAINS 1, MUNFORD 0: Leighton Arnold pitched spread out six hits and struck out 14 batters, and White Plains made the most of its two hits to improve to 20-11. Kylee Provencio had a double and drove in the game’s lone run in the fifth innings. Cassidy Arnold went 1-for-2 with a run. Munford’s Khloe Shears pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts. Kastin Lathem went 2-for-3. Chloe Prickette and Blair Darby each had a double for the Lions.

JACKSONVILLE 16-10, ANNISTON 0-0: Carli Fritts threw a no-hitter and one-hitter and struck out 11 combined batters in seven combined innings as the Golden Eagles improved to 10-14. She threw 60 strikes in 72 total pitches. Jacksonville had several performers at the plate: Alexis Phillips 3-for-4, three runs, three RBIs; Je’henna Engram 1-for-2, two runs, two RBIs; Sara Kate Adams 3-for-3, double, four runs, RBI; Keeli Leach 3-for-4, double, four runs, two RBIs; Dailyn Wood 1-for-4, four runs, RBI; and Libby Strain 2-for-4, four runs, RBI.

HOKES BLUFF 9, OHATCHEE 5: Alyssa Davis had two hits and two RBIs for Ohatchee. Whitney McFry and Mackenzie Luna each had a double, and Luna was 3-for-3 overall with an RBI. Ohatchee is 15-14.

Baseball

DONOHO 4, SPRING GARDEN 0: Blake Sewell, Peyton Webb and Hayes Farrell combined to throw a one-hitter as Donoho improved to 19-2. Sewell an Webb pitched two hitless innings apiece, and Farrell allowed one hit in three innings of work. They combined for nine strikeouts. Sewell also went 3-for-2 with double and run, and Lucas Elliott was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Marcus Lawler had a single and RBI.

OHATCHEE 7, SAKS 3: On senior night for Devin Howell, Bryce Noah and Jake Roberts, all three factored in the victory as the Indians finished their season 10-15. Noah went 1-for-2 and scored a run. Howell was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs. Roberts scored a run and got the win, pitching five innings, allowing five hits with eight strikeouts. Will Folsom came on with runners on second and third and no outs in the sixth and struck out the side. He added two more strikeouts in the seventh. For Saks, Mason Jairrels went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Jacori Avery was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

RAGLAND 12, VICTORY CHRISTIAN 10: Casey Phillips walked it off with a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, and Ragland improved to 13-8. Phillips also had a double and four RBIs on the day. Skyler Barber went 2-for-4 with a double, run and RBI, and Jabari Thomas was 1-for-2 with a double, run and RBI.
