Ohatchee 8, Cherokee County 6: Brent Honaker capped a five-run home sixth with a tie-breaking two-run single and then slammed the door in the seventh by striking out the side.

The Indians send 11 batters to the plate in their big inning. Jake Roberson, Tyler Green and Jesse Baswell all drove in runs before Honaker delivered his big two-out hit.

Honaker drove in three runs in the game. In his last three games, he has gone 8-for-12 with three doubles, five RBIs and two game-winning hits.

“He’s the definition of hard work,” Ohatchee coach Blake Jennings said. “He works at his craft unlike any high school player I’ve ever coached. He’s the leader of our team and he just continues to step up when we need him.”

White Plains 16, Ragland 6: Will Caldwell and Brandon Hahm both had two hits and three RBIs to spearhead the Wildcats’ 17-hit attack. Duke Barnett went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Cooper Tinney and Jackson Arnold both drove in a pair. Seven of the Wildcats’ hits were doubles.

Tinney and Barnett split six innings on the mound and combined for 12 strikeouts.

For Ragland, Jake Donaldson had three hits and two RBIs and Ethan Courtrey had two hits and three RBIs.

Alexandria 8, Piedmont 6 :The Valley Cubs (5-2) manufactured two runs in the top of the seventh to snap a 6-6 tie.

They scored the tie-breaking run on a balk, then pushed across the insurance run on a hit-and-run grounder to first that turned into a bang-bang play at the plate.

The Bulldogs had a chance to take the lead in the sixth after Alexandria tied the game in the top of the inning. Omarion Foster got to third with two outs, but they couldn’t get him home from the top of the lineup.

The top of Alexandria’s lineup went a combined 7-for-13, with Sam Wade going 3-for-5 and leadoff man Seth Johnson (two doubles) and Austin West collecting two hits apiece. McClane Mohon and Brodey Brothers each drove in two runs for Piedmont.

Hokes Bluff 15, Pleasant Valley 5: Brayson Hayes’ go-ahead, three-run homer capped a five-run second inning that answered the Raiders’ five in the top of the inning. The Eagles added two more in the fourth and walked it off with seven in the sixth.

The Eagles had only three hits in the game, but took advantage of 16 walks issued by four PV pitchers.

Samuel Duncan and Zeke Curvin each drove in a pair of runs for Pleasant Valley.

Decatur Heritage 14, Faith Christian 4: The Eagles handed Faith coach Cory Hughes his final loss of a good first year as the Lions’ basketball coach and they handed him his first loss in his first game as a high school baseball coach.

Colton Pahman hit a two-run homer for the Lions and Brodie Dodson had a double and drove in a run.

Alexandria 6, Oxford 0: Rylee Gattis spun a complete-game one-hitter with 16 strikeouts for the Lady Cubs (11-2). The only base runner she allowed was Sprawberrry Matti’s one-out single in the fifth.

Rylee and Chloe Gattis both drove in a pair of runs for the Lady Cubs and Ashley Phillips had two hits.

White Plains 8, Munford 3: Emma Howard and Camden Wilson both had two-run singles in the Lady Wildcats’ five-run home fifth that answered Munford’s game-tying three-spot in the top of the inning. [*** read more]
