JACKSONVILLE – The Donoho volleyball team was disappointed when it lost to new area rival Pleasant Valley in the silver bracket final of last weekend’s Fort Payne Tournament, but it didn’t take long for the Lady Falcons to exact some revenge in an even bigger game.

The Lady Falcons scored a hard-fought 3-0 area victory over the Lady Raiders Tuesday, 25-15, 25-23, 26-24. Not only did it give Donoho its second area victory, it also scored some leverage for the upcoming county tournament seeding meeting.

“The loss Saturday was definitely tough,” Donoho coach Anna Taylor said, “but we took the opportunity to refocus and improve our game.”

The Lady Falcons got 14 kills from Lily Grace Draper, 12 kills from Mary Marshall Perry, five blocks from Ryals Jones, 30 assists and 10 digs from Sam Wakefield and 15 digs from Sara Waggoner.

The Lady Falcons were without middle Estella Connell from midway through the second set, but sophomore Blair Kitchen filled in and teamed with outside Ansley Simmons to provide some stability.

“It was great to see both of them step up into a new role and play out of position in two close area games,” Taylor said. “Blair played with great communication and control. Everyone handled the minor setback well overall.”
