Jacksonville, AL – In a groundbreaking moment for Jacksonville State University (JSU), twins Gemir Scott and Gemira Scott were crowned the 2024 Homecoming King and Queen on Thursday night, marking the first time in the university’s history that siblings—and twins—have simultaneously held these prestigious titles.
The Scotts, both seniors, have left a lasting impact on the JSU community through their leadership and involvement across campus organizations.
Gemir Scott, a kinesiology major, holds several leadership roles, including Basileus of the Theta Eta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and Vice President of Public Relations for the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC). He also serves as an SGA Student Senator, is an active member of the Kinesiology Club, and participates in the NAACP.
Gemira Scott, a public relations major, is equally dedicated to campus leadership. She serves as the Vice President of Administration for NPHC and is the Recording and Corresponding Secretary for the Kappa Beta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Additionally, she is involved with the Black Student Union (BSU) and the NAACP.
The newly crowned King and Queen will be presented during the pregame ceremony of JSU’s Homecoming Football Game against Southern Miss on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 2 p.m. at AmFirst Stadium. They will also participate in the Homecoming Parade, which begins at 9 a.m. CT on Saturday. The parade will start on the south end of Jacksonville Square and conclude at Angle Hall.
2024 Homecoming Court
In addition to celebrating the Scott twins, JSU recognized the exceptional contributions of other members of the 2024 Homecoming Court, each of whom has demonstrated remarkable leadership, service, and school spirit.
- Jackson Davis (Senior): A Resident Assistant at North Village and an Applied Engineering Ambassador. He is active in the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), Collegiate Legislators (CLEG), the Student Senate, and SAC.
- Trey Landman (Junior): Serves as the Student Senate Parliamentarian and Organization Council IFC Director. He is also FCS Student Organization President, AAFCS National President-Elect, and Alpha Tau Omega Philanthropy Chair. Trey founded the Jax State Child Development Association and works at the Child Development Center.
- Jaden McGee (Senior): Involved in Cocky Karaoke and the Reformed University Fellowship (RUF). He participates actively at the JSU UREC Center.
- Reed Williams (Junior): A Gamecock Orientation (GO!) Leader and mentor to Freshman Forum members. He is a member of the Lambda Sigma Honors Society, the JSU Chanticleer, and the JSU Wesley Foundation.
- Haylee Bailey (Junior): A member of Phi Mu, a Jax State Ambassador, a Gamecock Guide, and part of the Panhellenic Team.
- Amelia Baker (Senior): Vice President of Phi Mu, and involved in PRSSA, Gamecock Orientation, NSLS, and Freshman Forum. She is also part of the Panhellenic Team.
- Elizabeth Edge (Junior): A Marching Ballerina and a Gogo Dancer in the Hard-Corps Pep Band. She is Vice President of Programming and Enrichment for AOII and involved with Jax State Baseball and the American Marketing Association (AMA).
- Lauren Sechrest (Junior): The Gamecock Orientation Leader for 2024 and the future Coordinator for 2025. She is the Director of Delight Ministries and a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) and Tau Sigma National Honors Society.
Jacksonville State University extends its heartfelt congratulations to the entire Homecoming Court for their outstanding leadership, commitment to service, and school spirit. This year’s Homecoming will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the most historic in JSU’s history.
