U.S. Flag to Fly at Half-Staff in Honor of Rosalynn Carter

United States Flags at Half-Staff Beginning on Saturday, November 25, 2023

Washington D.C. – In a solemn proclamation issued, President Joseph R. Biden Jr. has ordered that the United States flag be flown at half-staff as a mark of respect for the late Rosalynn Carter. The former First Lady of Georgia and the United States passed away, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, advocacy, and unwavering dedication to social causes.

His proclamation included that throughout her tenure as First Lady, Rosalynn Carter stood as a beacon of hope and warmth, embodying a steadfast commitment to addressing societal challenges. Her advocacy spanned a range of critical issues, including equal rights and opportunities for women and girls, mental health and wellness, and support for caregivers of children, aging loved ones, and individuals with disabilities.

President Biden’s proclamation acknowledges the profound impact of Rosalynn Carter’s life and contributions to the nation. The proclamation reads, “Above all, the deep love shared between Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter is the definition of partnership, and their humble leadership is the definition of patriotism.”

In accordance with the presidential directive, the U.S. flag will be flown at half-staff at the White House, all public buildings and grounds, military posts, naval stations, and naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and across the United States and its Territories and possessions. This display of mourning will commence on Saturday, November 25, 2023, and will continue until sunset on the day of interment, Wednesday, November 29, 2023.

Furthermore, the President has extended the order for the flag to be flown at half-staff for the same duration at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad. This includes military facilities and naval vessels and stations overseas.
