Washington D.C. – This week, the United States Senate unanimously passed a resolution introduced by U.S. Senators Katie Britt (R-Ala.) and Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) to honor the 60th anniversary of the University of South Alabama (USA).
Founded on May 3, 1963, the University of South Alabama has grown significantly since its inception, having awarded over 90,000 degrees to date. Notably, USA Health, the university’s acclaimed health system, stands as the sole academic health system along the upper Gulf Coast, renowned for its advancements in research and cancer treatment.
The Senate resolution acknowledges the University of South Alabama for its extensive educational offerings, including over 115 undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs across its 10 colleges and schools. It highlights the university’s role in producing successful alumni who have made significant contributions in diverse fields such as research, medicine, business, education, engineering, the sciences, the arts, and athletics.
Described as the “Flagship of the Gulf Coast,” the University of South Alabama has also garnered praise for its robust athletic programs and substantial community engagement initiatives.
The resolution further commends the university on its decades of service to the State of Alabama and the broader United States, recognizing its profound impact on education and healthcare in the region.
