Washington D.C. – In the wake of the tragic terrorist attack in New Orleans, U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) has released a heartfelt statement honoring the lives of two Alabamians, Drew Dauphin and Kareem Badawi, who lost their lives in the senseless act of violence.
“As our nation continues to mourn following the terrorist attack in New Orleans, we now know this act of evil stole two of Alabama’s own,” Senator Britt stated.
Remembering Drew Dauphin
Drew Dauphin, a 26-year-old Montgomery native, was celebrated as a devoted son, brother, and friend. A standout student-athlete at Alabama Christian Academy, Drew went on to graduate from Auburn University with an engineering degree. Known for his infectious smile and unwavering dedication to his passions, Drew had built a promising career at Honda. His family shared that he found his greatest joy at Lake Martin, wakeboarding with his younger brother, Matthew.
Drew’s family described their loss as “unbelievable,” saying, “Raising Drew will always be one of the greatest joys of our lives. Drew lit up every room he entered… Our family is numb and in shock through this horrific and senseless tragedy.”
Remembering Kareem Badawi
Kareem Badawi, a freshman at the University of Alabama, was a Baton Rouge native and an accomplished student-athlete at the Episcopal School. Known for his gregarious personality and uplifting spirit, Kareem quickly became a beloved member of the Tuscaloosa campus community. His father shared that Kareem was passionate about Crimson Tide football and had already shown signs of being a leader among his peers.
Senator Britt expressed profound sympathy, stating, “No parent, sibling, or friend should ever have to endure this senseless sadness. My family will continue praying for Drew and Kareem’s families and all those affected by this attack.”
Senator Britt emphasized the strength of Alabama’s community in the face of tragedy: “Alabamians rally around each other in the toughest of times, and I know the earnest thoughts of families in every corner of our state are with the Dauphins and Badawis.”
As Alabama mourns the loss of these two remarkable individuals, their stories serve as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the enduring power of community in the face of unimaginable sorrow.
