Washington D.C. — U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-AL) reaffirmed her strong support for Israel in a speech on the Senate floor following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress. Emphasizing the importance of the U.S.-Israel relationship, Britt highlighted the historical and ongoing significance of this alliance.
“Madame President, I rise today in support of America’s great ally, Israel,” Britt began. “Israel is more than an ally. She represents the hope in the Middle East, hope for the world.” Britt recalled her recent visit to Israel, just weeks after the October 7th attack, as part of a bipartisan delegation. She stressed the unique challenges Israel faces, comparing the October 7th attack to the September 11th terrorist attacks on the United States.
“On October 8th, Israel knew exactly who the perpetrator was. They knew exactly where they were. They were just miles away, their neighbor,” Britt said, illustrating the proximity and immediacy of the threat from Hamas. She underscored the brutal nature of the October 7th attack, describing it as “pure evil” and detailing the atrocities committed by Hamas, including the murder of entire families and the taking of hostages.
Britt also addressed the rise of antisemitism and pro-Hamas protests in the U.S., calling for unwavering support for Israel. “America cannot be a country of broken promises. We cannot let our allies down,” she asserted. Britt emphasized that Israel not only has the right but also the obligation to defend itself and called for American assistance in ensuring the safety and security of the Israeli people.
Britt highlighted the broader geopolitical implications, particularly the role of Iran in funding Hamas and other terrorist organizations. “It’s time to use every tool in our toolbox to dry up Iran financially,” she said, advocating for a return to stricter financial sanctions against Iran to curb its support for terrorism.
Britt expressed admiration for the courage of the Israeli people and reaffirmed her commitment to supporting Israel. “As a Christian, as an American, and as an Alabamian, I firmly support Israel, and I am incredibly proud to do so.”
Senator Britt also participated in a press conference with Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) to further discuss support for Israel.
