U.S. Senator Katie Britt Votes in Favor of Continuing Resolution to Avert Government Shutdown

U.S. Senator Katie Britt Statement on Continuing Resolution

Washington D.C. – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, has issued a statement explaining her vote in favor of the Continuing Resolution (CR) aimed at preventing a government shutdown and maintaining the uninterrupted functioning of federal services.

The two-tiered CR, championed by House Republicans, has received Senator Britt’s support and will extend through January 19 for four appropriations bills, and subsequently through February 2 for the remaining eight appropriations bills. The resolution successfully passed the House on the previous day and is expected to be signed by the President before the looming government funding expiration at the end of the day on November 17.

In her statement, Senator Britt emphasized the significance of avoiding a government shutdown during the holiday season and expressed her commitment to preventing a Christmas season omnibus. She highlighted the measure’s role in ensuring the continuity of critical government services and emphasized that personnel such as troops, border patrol agents, ICE officers, and Capitol Police would continue to receive their pay.

Drawing from her personal experiences growing up near Fort Rucker in the Wiregrass, Senator Britt underlined the sacrifices made by the men and women in uniform and their families. She conveyed that the resolution aims to alleviate the stress on service members during the Thanksgiving season, assuring that their paychecks will arrive, and providing a sense of security for the Christmas season.

Senator Britt underscored the importance of the Continuing Resolution in affording Congress the necessary time to transparently, accountably, and responsibly address all 12 appropriations bills. She urged her colleagues to diligently fulfill their responsibilities and complete the critical work on behalf of the American people.
