U.S. Senators Introduce Bipartisan Resolution Addressing Iranian Nuclear Threat

U.S. Senators Katie Britt, Lindsey Graham U.S. Can’t Allow Iran to Obtain Nuclear Weapon

WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Senators Katie Britt (R-Ala.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) have introduced a bipartisan, bicameral resolution affirming that the United States, Israel, and allied nations should consider all available options to counter the potential threat posed by a nuclear-armed Iran.

The resolution, cosponsored by Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa.) and Representatives Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) and Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.), asserts that Iran’s continued pursuit of nuclear capabilities represents a security risk to the United States and an existential threat to Israel and other allies in the Middle East.

“Iran’s continued pursuit of nuclear weapons poses a clear threat to the U.S., Israel, and our allies,” said Senator Britt. “Now more than ever, we must stand up to Iran and use every tool in our toolbox to address these threats. Peace is achieved through strength, and our resolution sends an important bipartisan message to Iran that the U.S. will not tolerate Tehran’s aggression.”

Application

Senator Graham emphasized the broader security implications, stating, “If the Iranian Ayatollah and his henchmen obtain a nuclear weapon, it would be one of the most destabilizing and dangerous events in world history. A nuclear-armed Iran is an existential threat to Israel and a nightmare for the world.” He added that the resolution is not an authorization for military action but is intended to underscore concerns about Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

If enacted, the resolution would call on Iran to cease uranium enrichment, halt the development of nuclear-capable delivery systems, and refrain from producing or acquiring nuclear warheads. The measure also aims to reinforce bipartisan congressional unity on preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Senator Britt has been vocal in her criticism of the Biden administration’s approach to Iran, citing concerns over policies that she argues have failed to curb Tehran’s nuclear ambitions. In the 118th Congress, she joined colleagues in urging former Secretary of State Antony Blinken to provide updates on U.S. efforts to hold Iran accountable for reported violations of nuclear agreements.

The resolution is expected to prompt further debate in Congress as lawmakers consider the strategic and diplomatic approaches necessary to address Iran’s nuclear program.
