Calhoun County, AL — In a remarkable show of community spirit, United Way of East Central Alabama (UWECA) recently held its annual Day of Action, uniting over 250 volunteers from Calhoun, Cleburne, and Randolph Counties to address hunger in the local area. This year’s event saw participants packing an impressive 50,000 meals, which will be distributed to food banks, domestic violence shelters, schools, and individuals in need across the community.
Jessica Smith, UWECA’s Director of Community Engagement, emphasized the event’s importance: “Mobilizing the caring power of our community is one of the pillars of our local United Way. Our annual Day of Action exemplifies the strength and impact of our community working together for good.”
UWECA is inviting more residents to participate in upcoming events and to engage with its mission of fostering positive change through hands-on volunteering. The organization is continually focused on connecting local needs with dedicated volunteers, empowering communities to provide for those in need.
The success of the Day of Action was made possible with the support of numerous sponsors. Jacksonville State University served as the host sponsor, while Tyler Union & M&H Valve, Anniston Operations took the lead as the presenting sponsor. The event was further bolstered by contributions from:
