UPDATE – Early Morning Fire in Alexandria

Valley Animal Clinic Suffers Catastrophic Fire

Alexandria, AL – Earlier today we reported on a fire in Alexandria, AL. We have a new update to the story which is below.

On December 11, 2022, at approximately 4:05 am the Alexandria Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a possible structure fire at 7100 US HWY 431. Upon arrival fire crews observed the fire at the Valley Veterinary Clinic was fully involved and made a rapid assessment not to enter the building and initiated a defensive exterior attack on the fire. Alexandria Fire Chief Jimmy Fisher advised that the fire had already spread throughout the building and other agencies were requested for assistance. The Angel Volunteer Fire Department, Jacksonville Fire Department, Weaver Volunteer Fire Department, and the Ohatchee Volunteer Fire Department sent additional equipment and firefighters to assist with battling the fire.

Chief Fisher said that there was a total of three tankers, three engines, and one aerial truck on scene with a compliment of supporting firefighters to combat the blaze. Chief Fisher also said the that the fire was declared out between 7:00 am and 8:00 am and that all fire equipment had been returned to the stations.

Chief Fisher also commented that he does not believe that there were any animals inside the building at the time of the fire and there were no injuries to any of the emergency personnel on scene.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, and an investigation will be conducted by the fire marshal.

EDITORS CORRECTION: According to a statement released by the Valley Veterinary Clinic via their Facebook page there were two losses in the fire. The statement released is listed below:

“We are overwhelmed by the loss two dear cats, our clinic cat Chloe and beloved patient JoJo, who were lost during a fire that destroyed Valley Veterinary Clinic last night. We greatly appreciate all of the interest and concern during this devastating occurrence.
Until our situation in Alexandria can be resolved, we will be seeing all patients at our Coldwater office, Town & Country Veterinary Clinic. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding during this difficult time.”
