Montgomery, AL – The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) responded to the Alabama State House in Montgomery on Wednesday morning following the delivery of multiple suspicious letters. The incident occurred at approximately 9:14 a.m. and involved correspondence addressed to three members of the Alabama House of Representatives and one to the Office of Governor Kay Ivey.
According to ALEA officials, each of the four letters contained pornographic images, prompting immediate action by Special Agents. A person of interest was quickly identified, and an investigation was launched.
The suspect, identified as John Watson, 54, of Dothan, was arrested and charged with four counts of Dissemination of Child Pornography. Authorities stated that additional charges may be considered as the investigation continues. Watson is currently being held without bond at the Houston County Jail.
ALEA confirmed that Watson was previously employed by the agency as a Driver License Examiner within the Driver License Division. Following the incident, he was placed on mandatory leave on April 9. Watson later submitted his resignation on April 10, prior to the completion of the administrative process for termination.
No further details have been released at this time, as the investigation remains active and ongoing.
