Oxford, AL –  On Friday, May 3, 2024, The Oxford Police Department received a request for assistance from the Cabarrus County, NC, Sheriff’s Office regarding a possible location of a wanted suspect, 33 year old Richard Michael Maybach, and an abducted juvenile. Oxford officers initiated an area search for the possible vehicle and were able to locate it in the 1200 block of Hwy 21 in a hotel parking lot. Officers approached the vehicle and found it to be unoccupied. The officers were then able to learn the possible room that the suspect had rented.

Oxford Sgt. Butler advised, “We were able to locate and identify the suspect in one of the rooms. He was taken into custody without any incident.” The responding officers were also able to locate the female juvenile that had been abducted. The juvenile did not appear to have any serious injuries but was transported to Children’s Hospital to be checked out. The parents of the juvenile were notified and traveled to Alabama where they were reunited at the hospital.

The original incident began in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. The juvenile was seen leaving Hickory Ridge High School, in the city of Harrisburg, in a white BMW driven by Maybach. After further investigation the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office secured warrants for abducting the juvenile.

Maybach is currently in the Calhoun County Jail with a no bond hold pending extradition. Both Cabarrus County and Oxford are continuing their individual investigations and more charges may be coming.
