OXFORD, AL — The Alabama Cares Program, East Alabama will host a Weather Awareness presentation as part of its August Community Health Series on Tuesday, Aug. 18, at the Oxford Civic Center.
The free two-hour program is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon and will feature Jason Simpson, chief meteorologist with WVTM 13.
Simpson will discuss weather preparedness and awareness, including severe storms, tornadoes, extreme heat and steps residents can take to remain prepared throughout the year. The presentation is intended to provide practical information that attendees can use to help protect themselves and their families during potentially hazardous weather.
In addition to the weather presentation, the event will feature community vendors, door prizes and giveaways.
The program is open to seniors, caregivers, families and other community members from throughout the region. Organizers are inviting residents from Calhoun, Cherokee, Chambers, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Etowah, Randolph, Talladega and Tallapoosa counties to attend.
The event will be held Tuesday, Aug. 18, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Oxford Civic Center, 401 McCullars Lane in Oxford.
