Mayor Willis started the session with an update on Public Works Director, Joey Conger. Mr. Conger is recovering well and is planning to back by the first week of June. Mr. Conger also has a request that the well pump 2 buffer unit needs to be addressed. The buffer eases the unit on and off. It was inspected and he was told it had approximately six months left before it stops working. To replace the unit is $4,445. To repair it is $1,400. The recommendation of Mr. Conger is to purchase a replacement and repair the current unit. This will also be a backup to be owned by the city and they can also “flip flop” as needed.
Mayor Willis also discussed the anticipated CARES money coming through the state for the City of Weaver is $575,000. The hope is that the funds will be received in June.
Councilmen Clendenning notes that Chief Bush has provided him a list of roads needing repaving in Weaver. A portion of the CARES funds is intended to pave or repave 5 miles of roadway.
There were no additional comments from Councilmen Bowles, Burns, or Councilwoman Mosser-Hamby.
Chief Bush has a question regarding the current ordinances and procedures for door to door representatives. In the past all representatives had to get County approval first then city approval as well. The County has much stricter regulations and requirements. Having approval by them first saves the city duplicate work. The city would then take their name, business, and contact information as well. Once approved the representative would have documentation from the County and City to show they are there on registered businesses. This could be presented to homeowners upon request. The Mayor and council members agreed that using the county requirements first is still the best procedure to follow.
Councilwoman Mosser-Hamby asked a question regarding what police jurisdiction is on Lett Street where it crosses over into Anniston. She has had a number of complaints regarding speeding. Chief Bush confirmed that is Weaver Police Department’s jurisdiction. He also confirmed they are aware of the complaints.
Mayor Willis updated that demo of the selected properties is ongoing.
The work session concluded until 5:00 pm.
