Weaver, AL – Weaver held their regularly scheduled works sessions and City Council Meeting on February 27th, 2024.

  • Public Works – Director Ingram – No Report
  • Chief Bush
    • Rules and usage times for the lakes still are being worked on.
  • Chief Bunn
    • He would like to look at restricting the parking lot.
    • There was a meeting with East Alabama regarding the demolition property. They have located a project manager and that project will be moving forward.
  • Administration – No Report
  • Councilmember Burns – No Report
  • Councilmember McRae
    • Mark the date for April 20th for a cleanup Day and thank you to Mrs. Ramsey is helping. The first 10-20 people will get t-shirts.
    • He also thanked the Lions Club for having him to speak.
  • Councilmember Hamby
    • She wanted to encourage everybody to get their animals spayed and neutered. She hope during the next fiscal year to see if reduced cost vouchers could be provided to residents.

  • Old Business
    • Ordinance #2024-02 – Rescinding Certain Sections of the Rental Property Ordinance – Unanimously Approved
      • No certificate of occupancy would be required to be provided.
    • Update on Sale of Land on Jacksonville Street
      • The Mayor spoke with city’s attorney. Mr. Borden’s attorney has not provided the updated deed per Mayor Clendenning and the city’s attorney.
    • Buckhorn Subdivision
      • The Mayor shared that is something that will be coming up. The builder currently is required to have a 50ft minimum lot size along the road. The variance was issued for a  5ft offset on the sides.  The builder is going to be requesting to reduce the lot size to a 40ft minimum. The houses would still by 1300 sqft. This would increase the total number of houses by 15. The Mayor stressed this was going to be a formal request at a future meeting. He just wanted to make everyone aware.
      • Councilmembers Bowles and Burns stated they were against it.
  • New Business
    • Resolution 2024-01 Authorizing the Renewal of General Obligation Warrant – Unanimously Approved
      • This is a balloon note due on February 28th for $222,000. the group that has the note is willing to extend it for roughly $4,500 a month for the land to be paid off in five years. The interest rate would increase to 2.35% and will go to 2.5%.
    • Second $250,000 Certificate of Deposit Investment – Unanimously Approved
      • The rate for a CD is 4.1% for 13 months. This would authorize the Mayor to move it over to a CD. The Mayor stated this is something they are looking to do every year.
  • Mayors Report
    • The pipe will have a report next meeting.
    • Each time we win a championship we add a date to multiple signs. He is thinking of having one sign at the entrance to the city that has the dates. It is something to consider more information is gathered.
    • Paving should start in July.
    • Regional planning for council and Mayors is coming up for anyone interested in going.
    • If anyone on the council is interested on May 15th-18th the Alabama League of Municipalities Election and Conference will be in held in Huntsville.
