Weaver On Top of Sectional Wrestling

Birmingham, AL – Weaver on top in North Class 1A-4A division with state qualifiers in all weight classes. (Includes state qualifiers by school from North and South Super Sectionals.)

 

Bear and Sons

Two-time defending Class 1A-4A champion Weaver took command on the first day of the AHSAA North Super Sectional wrestling tournament Friday.

The Bearcats amassed 201 points to lead Corner (164.5), Ashville (148.5), Dora (136), St. John Paul II (109.5), White Plains (108.5), Fultondale (107.5), Piedmont (101), New Hope (90.5), Ohatchee (74.5), Madison County (68), Wilson (56), Deshler (55), Cherokee County (52), Pleasant Valley (41), West End (36), Alabama School for Cyber Technology and Engineering (27.5), Brooks (27) and J.B. Pennington (25.5), Randolph (25.5), Westminster Christian (21), Childersburg (13), Susan Moore (13) and Indian Springs (6).

In Class 6A, Oxford is ninth with 77 points. Mortimer Jordan leads with 222.

In the South Super Sectional in Montgomery, Oak Grove leads the Class 1A-4A division with 144 points. Cleburne County (120) is fifth, Ranburne (119) sixth, Wellborn (97.5) seventh and Saks (35) 19th.

Competition concludes Saturday with championship finals and consolation semifinals and finals in Class 1A-4A, Class 6A and Class 7A. The top six wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the state tournament Feb. 15-17 in Huntsville.

Class 5A, which has fewer teams, will begin super sectional competition Saturday, with the top four wrestlers in each class advancing.

North Class 1A-4A

WEAVER: Cael Fulmer (106), Haiden Hise (120), Gianluca Torres (144) and Brandon Jolliff (215) reached championship finals. Zachary Hooks (190), Hunter Hise (175), Christopher Thornton (165), Caden Thornton (157), DaShawn Kirby Barnes (150), Dylan Brown (138), Gabriel Snyder (132), Dalton Fink (126) and Peyton Andrews (113) reached consolation semifinals.

WHITE PLAINS: Mason Hahm (120) reached his championship final. Houston Jarrell (165), James Heard (157), Wesley Beebe (144) and Tanner Jarrell (126) reached consolation semifinals.

CHEROKEE COUNTY: Kurtis Soles (132) and Andrew Young (150) reached championship finals.

PIEDMONT: Dalton Chandler (285), Elijah Young (215), Caleb Tidwell (157), Hunter Bagley (144), Izak Bailey (132), Hendrix Keener (113) and Myles Bailey (106) reached consolation semifinals.

PLEASANT VALLEY: Connor Crump (285) and Barron House (132) reached consolation semifinals.

OHATCHEE: James Howard (175), Jaxon Tuiolosega (126) and Phoenix Tuiolosega (106) reached consolation semifinals.

North Class 6A

OXFORD: Caleb Tinner (285) will compete in the championship final. Karlise Hubbard (106), Tristan Williams (144) and Jeremiah Edwards (165) reached consolation semifinals.

South Class 1A-4A

CLEBURNE COUNTY: Austen Mayfield (144) reached his championship final. Will Johnson (215), Brayden Beam (175), Colton Mayfield (157), Jackson Letson (132) and Jacob Biggers (106) reached consolation semifinals.

RANBURNE: Carter Driver (106), Zack Buchanan (175) and Zaden Benefield (285) will compete in championship finals. Braden Driver (138) and Hunter Hulsey (113) reached consolation semifinals.

WELLBORN: Andrew Salter (285), Ethan Carroll (190), Odin King (150), Noah Screws (144) and Noah Smith (106) reached consolation semifinals.

SAKS: John Bussey (190) reached his championship final.
