Boys roundup: Weaver rallies in fourth quarter to turn back JCA; Faith Christian comes back to beat Winterboro and more

MONDAY’S BOYS GAMES
Anniston 71, Munford 33
Faith Christian 59, Winterboro 46
Ragland 60, Ohatchee 27
Spring Garden 63, Cleburne County 29
Weaver 87, Jacksonville Christian 81

WEAVER – Kohl Perry slid into the left corner down by the end of the Weaver bench, took a pass from Tristan Brown, who missed him the first time through, and buried a 3-pointer that hit nothing but net and brought the crowd to its feet.

That sound that came from across the floor let the junior guard know he had done something special.

Perry came up big from behind the arc and on the free throw line in the fourth quarter Monday night to help Weaver snap a two-game losing streak with an entertaining 87-81 win over Jacksonville Christian.

The left-hander’s fourth 3-pointer of the game snapped a 74-all tie with 3:47 to play and gave the Bearcats the lead for good. Then he helped put the game away with the first two of their three successful one-and-ones in the final 20 seconds.

But it couldn’t have happened without that 3 from the corner.

“The crowd kind of got into it,” Perry said. “That’s one of the moments you love. When the crowd gets like that, I guess we all have egos, you always love when the crowd gets into it.”

Weaver was coming off a tough overtime loss to Munford Friday and appeared to be headed on the same path Monday. The Bearcats trailed JCA by 10 with 1:30 to go in the third quarter after a 14-0 Thunder run and by eight early in the fourth quarter.

The big push started with a pair of buckets by Dawson Brooks and a putback by Jeffrey Miles off a missed free throw to get the Bearcats within a bucket.

A free throw by Brodie Clay made it 74-71. A 3-pointer by Brown tied the game with 4:06 to go, and then Kohl nailed his biggest 3 on the Bearcats’ next trip down. [**read more]

ALPINE – Colton Pahman’s 3-pointer with 3:15 to play – his only bucket of the game – broke a tie game and Faith Christian never looked back.

The Lions scored only four points in the first quarter, but rallied to get within one by halftime, then came to life in the second half. [**read more]
