Birmingham, AL – Weaver’s Johannson the 138-pound champion in the AHSAA girls’ state meet. Weaver finishes fifth overall with seven placers.
Weaver’s Lena Johannson is once again a state wrestling champion, and Weaver finished fifth at the Alabama High School Athletic Association girls’ state meet.
The state meet started Thursday at Thompson High School and finished with Friday’s placement matches in Birmingham CrossPlex.
Class 3A Weaver finished with 154 points for fifth place, behind four Class 7A schools … Daphne (277) was the champion, followed by Central-Phenix City (233), Enterprise (160) and Thompson (157).
Piedmont (31) finished in 32nd place, and Alexandria (30) was 33rd.
Johannson won her fourth state title by pinning Buckhorn’s Bianca Hart (2:31) in the 138-pound championship final.
Bearcats wrestled in placement matches for six other weight classes:
—107: Kynlee Fulmer took fifth with an 8-6 decision over Central-Phenix City’s Tabitha James.
—114: Jaylee Carter took fourth after falling to Deshler’s Havah Standridge (SV-1 6-4) in the consolation final.
—120: Ali Anderson won a 13-0 major decision over Arab’s Bella Partington for seventh place.
—126: Mariah Johannson took fourth after Central’s Sellars won a 6-5 decision in the consolation final.
—132: Kallie Mayfield finished eighth after Tuscaloosa County’s Audrey Canterberry pinned her at 4:16.
—185: Baleigh Brown took fifth after pinning Elberta’s Mia Edwards at 5:05.
