Madison Atchley hit her first career home run, and Weaver beat Gadsden City 15-0 at home on Wednesday to set the stage for a key Class 3A, Area ? showdown with Piedmont. The Bearcats (15-6, 4-1 area) play host to Piedmont on Thursday. Piedmont can clinch the area title with a win, and Weaver can force a tiebreaker. Atchley, a senior, hit a three-run home run as part of Weaver’s six-run second inning. “I almost cried,” said Gary Atchley, Weaver’s head coach and Madison’s father. “Coming around second, she looked like my little 8-year-old, jumping up and down back in the day.” Atchley also had a single, and Ellamae Kines had two hits. Kynlee Fulmer pitched a one-hitter with seven strikeouts over four innings.
