Calhoun and Talladega County, AL – Calhoun and Talladega Counties are bustling with opportunities for youth to explore their interests and hone their talents year-round. From competitive sports to creative endeavors, local kids stay busy—and thrive—in a variety of activities. To celebrate their energy and dedication, I embarked on a special project called “Youth and Sports,” highlighting some of the incredible talents our young residents bring to the table.
The journey began with RJ Cook, an enthusiastic T-ball player who loves the camaraderie and excitement of the game. “I like hitting the ball and running fast to the bases,” RJ said, beaming with pride. His dedication to the sport is just one example of how youth athletics build confidence and friendships in our communities.
On the racetrack, Raeann “Rooster” Gibbs impresses with her skill and determination. Driving race cars at the Talladega Short Track, she’s an inspiration to her peers, proving that passion and focus lead to big achievements. Joining her in the spotlight are Juice Box Race Car Drivers Xander Jackson, Remington “Remi” Scott, and Kamdyn Ray, who each bring their unique flair to the track. “It’s all about having fun and trying your best,” Kamdyn shared.
The stage and runway are just as lively, with Persephone Gross and Vegas Brown dazzling audiences as fashion models and dancers. These talented young stars embrace their creative sides, participating in local fashion shows and captivating crowds during dance recitals. Persephone shared, “I love expressing myself through dance and trying new styles in fashion shows.”
These young talents are just a glimpse of the vibrant youth culture thriving in Calhoun and Talladega Counties. Through local Parks and Recreation Departments, kids enjoy baseball, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and football. Opportunities also abound in creative arts, such as dance recitals and fashion showcases, where they can shine in unique ways.
The “Youth and Sports” project gave me the opportunity to see firsthand how these activities shape the lives of our youth. I hope you enjoy hearing from these amazing kids as much as I enjoyed learning about their lives and talents.
