Anniston, AL – The 3rd Annual Squires Family Reading Contest is underway, at Golden Springs Elementary School offering students an opportunity to strengthen reading skills while competing for prizes. The contest is open to students in grades 1st through 5th and runs from December through February 2.
Students in grades 1st–5th can participate in the reading portion of the contest by reading age-appropriate books, completing an Accelerated Reader (AR) test for each book, and recording the books in a reading log. Prizes will be awarded to individual students, with first place receiving a $100 Visa gift card, second place earning a $75 Visa gift card, and third place receiving a $50 Visa gift card. In addition, the class with the highest overall participation will be rewarded with a cupcake party.
An essay contest is also included for students in grades 3rd–5th. Participants are asked to write a 300-word essay about their favorite book. Essays must be typed in Arial font, size 12, with double-spaced lines. The winner of the essay contest will receive a $100 Visa gift card.
The contest is designed to promote reading engagement, comprehension, and written expression among elementary students while recognizing both individual effort and classroom participation.
