Washington D.C. – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-AL), chairman of the Senate Banking Committee’s Housing, Transportation, and Community Development Subcommittee, is celebrating the Trump Administration’s decision to relocate several federal housing offices from San Francisco to Birmingham.
The move, led by Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director Bill Pulte, is expected to bring financial, servicing, and accounting positions to Alabama beginning next year. Officials say the relocation is part of broader efforts to strengthen the nation’s housing finance system and better align federal offices with regional workforce needs.
“As Chairman of the Housing Subcommittee, I have been dedicated to addressing our nation’s affordable housing shortage, including working with the Trump Administration to identify innovative ways to increase our housing stock and strengthen local communities,” Britt said. “I’m proud to celebrate this announcement today, which reflects the hard work and talents of Alabama’s skilled workforce and pro-jobs environment. This move will not only boost economic growth in our state but will also contribute to meeting the housing needs of families across the country. I will continue to work diligently to remove barriers to homeownership and ensure that this cornerstone of the American Dream is within reach for more hardworking families.”
Pulte credited Britt’s leadership and partnership with FHFA, particularly in expanding access to housing in rural areas and increasing the availability of manufactured housing.
“Senator Britt has been a tireless advocate for Alabama and longstanding supporter of strengthening our housing finance system,” Pulte said. “As Chair of the Banking Subcommittee on Housing, she has been an invaluable partner to the FHFA as we work hard to bolster access to rural housing and grow the availability of manufactured housing. I’m incredibly thankful to both Senators Britt and Tuberville who have both made Alabama a place we’re proud to be.”
In recent months, FHFA announced that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac would expand their CHOICEHome and MH Advantage financing programs to include CrossMod homes. Britt has described the expansion as a “creative, fiscally responsible” approach to addressing housing affordability challenges.
