Governor Ivey Proclaims June as Strong Families Month in Alabama

MONTGOMERY – Governor Kay Ivey has officially proclaimed June 2026 as Strong Families Month in Alabama, highlighting the role families play in supporting children and strengthening communities across the state.

In announcing the proclamation, Governor Ivey emphasized the importance of stable family environments and recognized the contributions of parents in raising children and preparing them for future success.

“Strong families build a strong Alabama,” said Governor Ivey. “Homes led by stable parents, a father and a mother, provide children with the structure and discipline necessary to succeed. In Alabama, we celebrate these hardworking parents that strive for an even better future for their children.”

The proclamation coincides with Father’s Day, which will be observed on June 21. Governor Ivey noted the impact fathers can have on their children’s lives through leadership, support and involvement within the family.

State officials cited data from the U.S. Census Bureau indicating that nearly one-third of Alabama children live in single-parent or non-married-couple households. The proclamation points to research suggesting that children raised in stable households are more likely to graduate from high school, achieve economic stability and avoid substance abuse.

The proclamation also references educational outcomes, stating that students who grow up in stable home environments are generally more likely to attend school regularly, meet academic benchmarks and graduate on time.

Governor Ivey’s administration highlighted several initiatives aimed at supporting Alabama families and children. These efforts include expanding educational opportunities through programs such as the CHOOSE Act, increasing investments in early childhood education and implementing improvements within the state’s foster care and child welfare systems.

Additionally, Alabama has partnered with First Lady Melania Trump in support of the Trump Administration’s “A Home for Every Child” initiative, which seeks to increase opportunities for children to grow up in stable and supportive homes.

The proclamation designates June as Strong Families Month and encourages recognition of the role families play in the well-being of children and communities throughout Alabama.
