ANNISTON, AL — Residents will have an opportunity to explore the nocturnal wildlife of Weaver Cave Preserve during a guided evening hike on Thursday, June 18.
The event, titled “Echo Walk at Weaver Cave Preserve,” is being hosted by the Georgia-Alabama Land Trust (GALT) in partnership with biologists from Alabama Power. The program will take place from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Weaver Cave Preserve, located on Cave Road in Anniston.
During the hike, participants will learn about local bat species and their role in the ecosystem. Biologists will use acoustic monitoring equipment to detect and identify bats through their ultrasonic calls, offering attendees a unique opportunity to experience wildlife activity that is typically hidden from human observation.
The guided walk will also provide participants with a chance to explore the preserve after dark while learning about the bats that inhabit the area.
The event is recommended for ages 6 and older. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Organizers noted that signs will be posted to direct visitors to designated parking areas. Registration is required. Register or join the waitlist here: echo_walk_WCP.eventbrite.com
