MONTGOMERY, AL — Governor Kay Ivey announced Thursday that Alabama is participating in the Great American State Fair in Washington, D.C., as part of the nationwide celebration marking America’s 250th anniversary.
According to the governor’s office, the Great American State Fair highlights the people, landscapes and traditions of all 56 U.S. states and territories. Each participating pavilion is designed to showcase the unique history, culture and contributions of its respective state while celebrating the nation’s shared heritage.
“Alabama is proud to be a part of America’s 250th birthday celebration in our nation’s capital,” Governor Ivey said in a statement. “People from all over the world will be able to witness our state’s diverse strengths and rich history. From agricultural heritage to pivotal moments in the civil rights movement, Alabama has redefined liberty and equality in America.”
The Alabama Pavilion features exhibits highlighting the state’s agriculture, aerospace and defense industries, civil rights history, and musical heritage. Visitors can also experience interactive photo opportunities, Alabama-themed giveaways and a larger-than-life cutout of Governor Ivey.
The Great American State Fair is being held on the National Mall from June 25 through July 10 as part of Freedom 250, a series of events commemorating the nation’s semiquincentennial. Admission is free, although advance registration is encouraged.
The pavilion is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
Governor Ivey said the exhibit reflects Alabama’s history while showcasing its continued role in innovation and economic development.
“Our pavilion invites visitors to experience the notable people and milestones that have shaped our state and our nation,” Ivey said.
The Great American State Fair is one of several events taking place across the country in recognition of the United States’ 250th anniversary.
