ANNISTON, AL. – Anniston Museums and Gardens will host its next Third Thursday educational program on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at noon, featuring a presentation on the oakleaf hydrangea, a native shrub known for its distinctive foliage and flowers.
The program, titled “Third Thursday: Oakleaf Hydrangea,” will take place in the Longleaf Event Center Classroom and will feature presenter David Daugette, who will discuss the plant’s natural habitat, notable varieties, and contributions to Alabama’s horticultural landscape.
Alabama is at the heart of the native range of the oakleaf hydrangea, a flowering shrub that thrives in the state’s warm climate. During the presentation, Daugette will highlight outstanding selections discovered in Jefferson County and surrounding areas, using an illustrated PowerPoint presentation to showcase the plant’s characteristics and varieties.
The program will also explore the celebrated double-flowered ‘Snowflake’ cultivar, which gained recognition through the work of the late Eddie Aldridge. The variety is known for its distinctive layered blooms and has become a recognized selection among gardeners and horticultural enthusiasts.
The Third Thursday series provides opportunities for community members to learn about subjects related to nature, gardening, and the environment through educational presentations.
Admission is $5 per person and free for Anniston Museums and Gardens members. Registration is encouraged.
