Calhoun County, AL – Daisha and Dalton are continuing their journey on CBS’s The Amazing Race Season 39, and the pair recently sat down exclusively with the Calhoun Journal to discuss the challenges, alliances, and unexpected moments from Episode 6.
The episode took contestants through Albania for another self-driving leg of the competition. Daisha and Dalton finished in second place, navigating a series of challenges that included traditional Albanian dancing, a performance task, and an unexpected partnership with another team.
During their exclusive recap, the pair shared details about their experience that viewers did not necessarily see during the televised episode.
An Unexpected Partnership
One of the most significant developments of the leg came almost immediately after Daisha and Dalton received their first clue.
Rather than having to navigate independently, they encountered fellow contestants Matt and Michelle, who had already determined their next destination and were waiting for them.
The teams were required to work together as part of an Intersection, a race element that temporarily pairs two teams to complete a challenge before receiving their next clue.
Daisha praised Matt and Michelle’s decision to coordinate early, describing it as a smart competitive move that helped both teams save time.
“I think that it was genius. I think it was extremely smart,” Daisha said.
She explained that while she and Dalton had been performing well during the self-driving portions of the competition, the partnership allowed them to move forward more quickly and potentially increase their lead over other teams.
Taking on the Dance Challenge
The first major challenge involved performing a traditional dance associated with an Albanian wedding celebration.
Daisha completed the Roadblock alongside Michelle. The decision was influenced in part by the number of Roadblocks each teammate had previously completed, with Dalton having completed four compared to Daisha’s two.
Daisha said she enjoyed the experience and appreciated the opportunity to work with Michelle.
The pair also shared a humorous exchange about Michelle’s confidence in her dancing abilities. According to Daisha, Michelle believed she could have completed the challenge in approximately 10 to 15 minutes on her own.
Dalton complimented Daisha on her performance and the traditional outfit she wore during the challenge.
The Alliance Comes to an End
Although the two teams worked together successfully during the Roadblock, their cooperation did not continue throughout the remainder of the leg.
Daisha revealed that she and Michelle discussed their plans before leaving the dance challenge.
According to Daisha, both understood that the teams would return to competing independently once the required partnership ended.
Daisha and Dalton initially attempted to follow Matt and Michelle while navigating to the next destination, but the teams became separated.
“Yeah, and they ditched us,” Daisha said during the recap.
Dalton acknowledged that he lost track of the other team and accepted responsibility for the separation.
Matt and Michelle subsequently reached the next clue near the Mother Teresa landmark, while Daisha and Dalton continued navigating on their own.
Choosing Performance Over Hat Making
The next challenge required teams to select between two Detour options, identified as Heads and Tails.
The Heads option involved making a traditional Albanian hat, while the Tails option required contestants to complete a performance.
Daisha and Dalton selected the performance challenge, reasoning that Daisha had already participated in a dance earlier in the leg.
Both described the experience positively, with Daisha saying she particularly enjoyed the challenge despite feeling nervous.
She also shared that she continues to recite portions of the poem she learned for the performance, sometimes unexpectedly during everyday conversations.
Express Passes and a Second-Place Finish
Daisha and Dalton ultimately completed the leg in second place.
During their recap, they discussed how the use of Express Passes by other teams affected the race.
Matt and Michelle used their Express Pass, a development Daisha and Dalton said they were unaware of while competing.
The pair expressed their belief that they might have finished first had the circumstances been different.
“I think we would have got first,” Dalton said.
They also discussed Connor and Garrett, who used an Express Pass during the leg.
According to Daisha and Dalton, Connor and Garrett left one challenge approximately 15 minutes ahead of them, but Daisha and Dalton ultimately reached the Pit Stop first.
The pair said they did not know what happened to Connor and Garrett during that period because the television broadcast did not show the intervening events.
A Surprise Non-Elimination
Another memorable moment came when Doug and Dylan arrived at the Pit Stop.
Daisha and Dalton said they were waiting for their post-race interview when they saw the other team arrive.
Initially, they believed Doug and Dylan would be eliminated. However, they soon realized the leg was a non-elimination round.
The pair described their excitement upon learning that Doug and Dylan would remain in the competition.
Daisha said they could tell something unexpected had happened when they saw the team’s reaction at the Pit Stop.
Looking Ahead to Sri Lanka
The recap also included a preview of Episode 7, which will take the remaining teams to Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Daisha and Dalton noted that the upcoming leg will feature a Double U-Turn, a race element that could significantly affect the competition.
The pair also briefly discussed filming an Expedia commercial that appeared during the episode’s broadcast.
As the competition continues, Daisha and Dalton remain in contention following their second-place finish in Albania.
