Rockmart goes 7-for-7 in finals, runs away with Alexandria’s Grappling in Death Valley tournament; Weaver third in Huntsville

Rockmart swept all seven weight division finals they wrestled Saturday and ran away with the Otis Weather Memorial Grappling in Death Valley Tournament Saturday at Alexandria.

The reigning Georgia state champions won each of the first five division and amassed 240 points. Fort Payne was second (156.5) and Jasper, which had three winners and a runner-up, was third.
 
Host Alexandria was sixth and Oxford was tenth. Both had a champion. Alexandria’s Jaden New won a 1-0 decision in the 152 final and Oxford’s Michael Howell won 6-0 at 145.

Rockmart’s undefeated 120 champion T.K. Davis was named most valuable wrestler. Davis scored a tournament-high 52 match points, scoring two tech falls and a pin.

Anderson, Usry help Weaver finish 3rd

Undefeated Devin Anderson and once-beaten Anthony Usry won their respective weight divisions and helped Weaver to a strong third-place finish in the Jason Spencer Invitational in Huntsville.

Anderson, 19-0, won the 182 pound division by pinning Todd Whitmire of Huntsville in 5:01, his fifth pin of the day. Usry, 20-1, claimed the 170 division by pinning J.J. Ake of Scottsboro in 5:17, his fourth pin of the day. Eighth-seeded Quinn Sani was third at 120 and Dalton Fink was fourth at 106.

The Bearcats scored 368.5 points in the tournament. Huntsville had five champions and won the event with 544.5 points. Scottsboro was second (419).
