Washington D.C. — The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a recall for 12-packs of Diet Coke, Fanta Orange, and Sprite, sold in Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi, citing concerns over the potential presence of “foreign material” in the cans.

The FDA announced the recall without specifying the nature of the foreign material found in the affected soda cans. Consumers are urged to exercise caution and not consume the products in question.

The impacted Diet Coke products subject to the recall are identified by Lot No. JAN2924MBD3 and UPC 49000028911. These cans bear a best-by date of January 29, 2024. The recalled Fanta Orange products can be recognized by Lot No. JUL2924MBD3 and UPC code 49000030730, with a best-by date of July 29, 2024. Similarly, the affected Sprite products are labeled with Lot No. JUL2924MBD3 and UPC code 49000028928, with a best-by date of July 29, 2024.

In total, the FDA reports the recall affecting 417 cases of Diet Coke, 14 cases of Fanta Orange, and 1,557 cases of Sprite.

Consumers who have purchased products with the specified lot numbers, UPC codes, and best-by dates are strongly advised not to consume them. Instead, they should return the items to the place of purchase or dispose of them in a manner that prevents further consumption.

The FDA is actively working with the beverage manufacturer to investigate the root cause of the issue and ensure that corrective actions are taken promptly. The agency emphasizes the importance of consumer safety and encourages individuals with questions or concerns to contact the FDA through their website or by calling the FDA Consumer Complaint Coordinator in their region.

As the situation develops, the FDA will continue to provide updates and guidance to the public regarding the ongoing recall. Consumer vigilance is paramount, and the FDA appreciates the cooperation of individuals in safeguarding their health and well-being.
