Bipartisan Senate Resolution Condemns Hamas for Sexual Violence in October 7th Attack

U.S. Senators Katie Britt, Jeanne Shaheen, Colleagues Lead Bipartisan Resolution Condemning Hamas’ Use of Sexual Violence During October 7th Terrorist Attack on Israel

Washington D.C. – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) spearheaded a bipartisan effort alongside Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), and Deb Fischer (R-Nebr.) to condemn Hamas for the use of sexual and gender-based violence as a weapon of war during the October 7th terrorist attack on Israelis.

Senator Britt expressed her horror at the acts committed by Hamas terrorists during her visit to Israel, emphasizing the bipartisan condemnation of these “reprehensible, barbaric acts of sexual violence.” She underscored the need for a universal denouncement of such actions.

Senator Shaheen echoed these sentiments, describing the deliberate use of rape and sexual violence by Hamas as atrocious war crimes under international convention. She stressed the importance of standing against rape as a weapon of war in all conflict settings.

Senator Gillibrand condemned the “horrific and barbaric acts” committed by Hamas on October 7th, highlighting the historical use of rape as a deliberate form of torture against the Jewish people. She emphasized the bipartisan resolution as a commitment to denounce and seek accountability for these crimes against humanity.

Senator Fischer strongly condemned the acts of rape and sexual violence on October 7th, calling them “horrific and barbaric.” She urged all organizations to speak out against Hamas’s war crimes and contribute to bringing justice to the perpetrators.

Per Senator Britt, she is a staunch supporter of Israel, has consistently advocated for accountability in the wake of the October 7, 2023, attack. She has participated in bipartisan efforts, including a recent letter to the United Nations Secretary-General, condemning the U.N.’s inaction regarding Hamas’s sexual violence. Senator Britt has also supported resolutions against Hamas and antisemitism, advocating for robust sanctions on Iran to hinder its support for terrorist proxies like Hamas and Hezbollah.
