Lincoln, AL – Last Saturday’s event at Angler’s Point was a heartfelt celebration of community support for veterans, with Dovetail Landing leading the way. The day was packed with performances, special guests, and the participation of 31 veteran support organizations, all working together to make a difference in the lives of veterans and their families.
Angler’s Point provided the venue, and the event featured a VIP tent where World War II veterans could relax and enjoy the festivities.
Musical performances were a key feature of the day, with artists like Kristen Kelly, Austin Edwards from America’s Got Talent, and Chapel Hart, a AGT Golden Buzzer recipient, taking the stage. Kevin Smith from Talladega, who played earlier in the day, played a key role in helping put the event together as well as Hatchett Creek.
Jason McIntyre teamed up with veteran Terry Lawson to perform a song they co-wrote, thanks to the collaboration with Challenge America. This organization connects veterans with musicians and artists to help them express their creativity. Hannah Hall from Challenge America also presented Alana Centilli, president of Dovetail Landing, with a moving painting in memory of her son, Daniel Centilli, a United States Marine who passed away in 2019.
Stephen Henderson, leader of the Dovetail Brigade, and Brigade member Fulton Hunt, assisted with the day’s activities, from organizing the raffle to helping with the flags during Austin Edwards’ emotional song, which brought many to tears, including Brigadier General Robert Holmes (Ret.), who was spotted wiping his eyes. Brigadier General Robert Holmes, USAF (Retired) and Executive Director of Dovetail Landing, expressed his gratitude for the community’s presence, stating:
“Dovetail Landing is grateful for all the folks who came out to support Veterans and their families. We are committed to assisting Veterans have the ability to access any opportunity they need to return to reenter civilian life. With the people we met at the Fall Festival, we know you are behind our Veterans and Dovetail Landing.”
One of the highlights was the attendance of Mike Burdette, from the Discovery Channel’s Moonshiners, who came out to show his support for the cause.
Another touching moment came when students from Moody High School and Alabama School for the Blind presented personalized guitars to veterans, which they had painted with love and appreciation.
Alana Centilli, a driving force behind Dovetail Landing, also expressed her thanks, stating, “Dovetail Landing is thankful for the community support and our partners! We work each day to make a difference in the lives of Veterans and their families, and with the continued support, we can continue that mission.”
As the day unfolded, veterans and their families enjoyed the presence of Bonfire Ranch, which provided equine therapy, and a ruck march in the morning, led by veterans like Ben Tomlinson. The Pink Hills Fire Truck and several local organizations were also present, alongside representatives from Senator Tommy Tuberville, Senator Katie Britt, and Congressman Mike Rogers.
The event was a true testament to the power of community, music, and camaraderie in supporting those who have served the country. With so many contributors like Angler’s Point, Mike Burdette, and various organizations, the day was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who attended.
