MONTGOMERY, AL — As Independence Day approaches, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) has launched its annual safety campaign to promote responsible travel on the state’s roads and waterways. The 2025 campaign, themed “Standards and Success,” encourages Alabamians to adopt four key safety standards to reduce preventable accidents and ensure safe celebrations.
ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor emphasized the importance of individual responsibility, stating, “Success means everyone makes it home safely. This starts by making safe choices non-negotiable standards, both behind the wheel and on the water.”
ALEA Troopers statewide will increase their presence during the holiday, focusing on both enforcement and education. The agency is asking drivers and boaters to commit to the following safety measures:
-
Always wear a seat belt.
-
Avoid distractions, especially cell phone use.
-
Follow posted speed limits.
-
Never operate a vehicle or boat while impaired by alcohol, drugs, or fatigue.
“Our goal isn’t to write tickets—it’s to save lives,” said Colonel Jonathan Archer, Director of ALEA’s Department of Public Safety. “We are here to enforce Alabama laws to protect every citizen, which means holding dangerous drivers and boaters accountable for their actions.”
ALEA’s Marine Patrol Division will also join the nationwide Operation Dry Water initiative, aimed at removing impaired boaters from waterways during high-traffic periods. With an expected increase in activity on Alabama’s lakes, rivers, and beaches, officials are urging boat operators to prioritize sobriety and safety.
Colonel Archer added, “If you boat under the influence of drugs or alcohol you are endangering your life and the lives of other boaters.”
The “Standards and Success” campaign will run through the July 4th weekend as ALEA continues its mission to promote public safety across Alabama.
