JACKSONVILLE, AL – Longtime community leader and former Jacksonville City Council President Mark Jones has officially announced his candidacy for Mayor in the upcoming municipal election scheduled for August 26, 2025.
Jones brings with him a background in public service, education, and athletics. He served on the Jacksonville City Council from 2008 to 2016 and became the city’s first Council President following a structural change in local government after the 2010 Census. He later stepped away from local office to serve as Director of Officials for the Alabama High School Athletic Association, a statewide leadership position that required him to relocate to Montgomery. With his return to Jacksonville, Jones is seeking to re-engage in city leadership.
Jones said his campaign will focus on improving quality of life for residents, addressing emergency healthcare service gaps, promoting economic development, enhancing infrastructure, and fostering partnerships with Jacksonville State University and local schools. He also emphasized the importance of transparency and public involvement in government decisions.
Throughout his career, Jones has been recognized for a leadership style centered on listening, collaboration, and professionalism. He noted that while no leader has all the answers, he believes experience and teamwork are key to delivering results for the community.
Municipal elections in Jacksonville will take place on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.
