Weaver, AL – On the morning of August 19, Weaver Police officers responded to a call for help from an elderly resident who had fallen inside a locked home. Officers quickly arrived, evaluated the situation, and determined there was no immediate danger—but access was still needed.
Rather than damaging the home to force entry, officers found a clever solution. They used tools available in their patrol vehicles to carefully open an older window and crawl inside, assisting the resident without causing harm or damage.
“This is just part of what we do,” said Lt. Andy Hunter. “Above and beyond is the standard here.”
The department is now encouraging residents—especially seniors or those with mobility challenges—to consider installing a lockbox system like a Knox Box. These small, secure devices can hold a spare key and give first responders quick access during emergencies.
Lt. Hunter also emphasized the importance of sharing the lockbox combination with the Weaver Police Department and Calhoun County 911, so it can be kept on file, helping officers gain entry even faster when every second counts.
It’s a simple step that could prevent delays—and even save a life.
