Anniston City Council Approves New Garbage Contract with 121 Disposal Company

New City Trash Provider

Anniston, AL – At its September 2, 2025, meeting, the Anniston City Council voted unanimously to award the city’s new garbage contract to 121 Disposal Company. The change introduces expanded services while keeping costs the same for residents.

Expanded Services

The most significant change is the introduction of weekly curbside bulk item pickup. This service replaces the previous system of quarterly roll-off dumpsters placed in each ward. Bulk collection will occur on the same day as regular trash service, with limits set at one pile per week not exceeding 6 feet by 6 feet by 4 feet. Accepted items include small tree limbs, old furniture, mattresses, cardboard, and household debris. Items such as tires, hazardous materials, and piles over the size limit will not be collected.

Residential Pickup

All residential trash routes will continue on the same schedule as before, though residents are reminded to place carts out the night before and bag all trash to prevent loose debris. Service with 121 Disposal begins after September 29, 2025. Between September 15 and September 29, new carts will be delivered to households. Republic Services will remove its carts on each home’s final pickup day around September 29.

Billing and Accounts

Under the new arrangement, residents will pay 121 Disposal directly rather than the City. Rates will remain at $20.00 per month for the fiscal year beginning October 1, 2025. Additional carts will cost $10.01 per month. By January 1, 2026, all residents must create online accounts with 121 Disposal. Details on account setup will be provided in late October. Refunds will be issued in January 2026 for any credits remaining with Republic Services.

Commercial Services

Republic Services will continue to handle commercial dumpsters and roll-off operations in Anniston, meaning businesses, nonprofits, and other organizations will not see immediate changes. However, commercial customers may contact 121 Disposal directly if they wish to transition services.

For more information, residents can reach 121 Disposal through its Anniston-specific phone line at 256-251-3949 or by email at anniston@121disposal.com.
