Montgomery, AL – Governor Kay Ivey on Friday introduced the Siemens family of Dothan as an example of Alabama parents utilizing the CHOOSE Act, the state’s education savings account (ESA) program.
Brady and Hannah Siemens have three children—Gabriel, an 11th grader; Remington, a 7th grader; and Annalise, a 3rd grader. All three are enrolled at Northside Methodist Academy with support from the CHOOSE Act.
Previously, the children attended three different schools, creating challenges for their working parents. Brady works in sales, while Hannah, a medical assistant, often spent two hours daily on school transportation. The CHOOSE Act enabled them to unify their children’s education on one campus.
Governor Ivey praised the program’s impact. “Brady and Hannah Siemens have been hoping for Alabama to have a program like the CHOOSE Act so that they can give their children the education that best suits their family. Now, that hope is a reality,” she said.
Hannah Siemens shared her perspective on the change. While she was satisfied with the public schools Remington and Annalise previously attended, she wanted her children on the same campus. “100 percent do it! I have told so many people about this,” she advised other parents. She added that the program has made her more optimistic about her children’s future.
The Siemens children are engaged in varied activities: Gabriel participates in athletics, Remington focuses on math and Boy Scouts, and Annalise enjoys dance and reading.
The CHOOSE Act, signed into law in 2024, provides refundable income tax credits through ESAs for eligible K–12 students. These funds can be used for tuition, fees, and other approved educational expenses. For the 2025–2026 academic year, over 36,800 students across all 67 Alabama counties applied, with more than 23,000 approved—amounting to $124 million in support.
Governor Ivey has pledged to continue highlighting families across the state benefiting from the program.
Applications for the 2026–2027 academic year will open in January 2026. More information, including a Parent Guide and list of approved providers, is available at www.chooseact.alabama.gov.
