Gadsden, AL – The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) has launched an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred Thursday, November 20, in Gadsden. Special Agents with ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) are reviewing the incident, which involved officers with the Gadsden Police Department and deputies with the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office assigned to the Etowah County Joint Special Operations Group (ECJSOG).
According to ALEA, the shooting took place as ECJSOG members attempted to execute a search warrant in the 1000 block of Eastview Avenue. During the operation, Brandon Jackson, 47, of Gadsden, reportedly fired at members of the group, striking one. Officers returned fire, injuring Jackson. A second ECJSOG member was also injured during the incident.
One injured member received treatment at the scene, while the other was transported to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Hospital. Jackson was transported to Gadsden Regional Medical Center. ALEA reported that both ECJSOG members and Jackson are currently in stable condition.
The investigation remains active. Once completed, ALEA will present its findings to the Etowah County District Attorney’s Office.
