JACKSONVILLE, AL — The Jacksonville Police Department is investigating a stabbing that occurred Friday afternoon in the parking lot of Walmart following an attempted theft.
According to information released by Chief Marcus Wood via the Jacksonville Police Department’s Facebook page, officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 4 p.m. after reports that a black male suspect attempted to steal a computer monitor from the store’s electronics department. A Salvation Army worker who was in the area pursued the suspect as he exited the store.
Police say a struggle took place in the parking lot, during which the worker was stabbed with a sharp object. The suspect then fled the scene.
Emergency personnel treated the victim for non-life-threatening injuries, and he was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and released Friday evening.
Authorities are asking for the public’s help identifying the individual shown in the photos accompanying the release.
