Carter Academy receives $100,000 grant

CALHOUN COUNTY, AL – The Calhoun County Career Academy has been awarded a $100,000 Innovation and Modernization Grant from the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) to support improvements to its Beginner Welding Lab.

According to the academy, the grant funding will be used to modernize the lab’s ventilation system, update welding booth space, and enhance computer-aided design (CAD) capabilities within the program. The upgrades are intended to create a safer, more efficient, and technologically advanced learning environment for students enrolled in the welding pathway.

The Beginner Welding Lab plays a key role in workforce development by introducing students to foundational welding skills and industry-aligned technologies. Improvements to ventilation and booth space are expected to support hands-on instruction, while expanded CAD capabilities will allow students to gain experience with design tools commonly used in modern manufacturing and welding industries.

ALSDE’s Innovation and Modernization Grant program is designed to help career and technical education programs across the state update facilities and equipment to better align with current industry standards. The investment in the Calhoun County Career Academy reflects a continued emphasis on strengthening career-readiness opportunities for Alabama students.
