Calhoun County Area Chamber & Visitors Launches Local Committee to Celebrate America’s 250th Birthday

Calhoun County, AL — Community leaders across Calhoun County are beginning preparations for a historic national milestone as the Calhoun County Area Chamber & Visitors Center launches the America250AL Calhoun County Team, a local committee dedicated to planning events for the United States’ 250th anniversary in 2026.

The initiative is part of a broader statewide effort led by the Alabama USA Semiquincentennial Commission, also known as America250AL. Local committees across Alabama are being formed to help coordinate activities that commemorate the nation’s founding and highlight the role communities have played in shaping the country’s history.

According to organizers, the Calhoun County team includes a diverse group of participants such as community leaders, educators, veterans, business owners, historians, and civic volunteers. The group will work collaboratively to plan events that reflect the county’s history while also engaging residents and visitors.

“Our America250AL effort is more than just a celebration — it’s a chance to reflect on our past and share how Alabama’s history helped shape the nation,” said Natalie Steed, Executive Officer of the Alabama USA Semiquincentennial Commission. She noted that local committees like the one in Calhoun County play an important role in bringing meaningful and community-focused programming to life.

The committee will partner with the statewide America250AL initiative to align local programming with broader state and national commemorations. Organizers say potential activities may include educational programs, historical exhibits, festivals, public art projects, and recognition of veterans and community contributors.

Community members, organizations, and local groups are encouraged to participate in the planning process or host events connected to the celebration.
