Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals Affirms Murder Conviction of Bryan Craig Fox

Attorney General Steve Marshall Announces Court of Criminal Appeals Upholds Blount County Murder Conviction

Montgomery, AL – Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall announced that the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals has upheld the murder and firearm possession convictions of Bryan Craig Fox, 54, of Oneonta. Fox was originally convicted in the Blount County Circuit Court on May 21, 2024, and was sentenced to life in prison.

The case stems from the November 2021 shooting death of Fox’s wife, Sharon Teal Askew. According to court records, Fox, who was legally prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a prior conviction, was engaged in an extramarital relationship at the time of the incident. On the night of the fatal shooting, Fox exchanged contentious text messages with his wife before returning to the residence and shooting her in the head. She later died from the injury.

Fox claimed he acted in self-defense, but the jury rejected that claim and convicted him of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm. The case was prosecuted by Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey’s office.

Fox appealed the conviction, seeking to have the verdicts overturned. The Attorney General’s Criminal Appeals Division handled the case during the appellate process. On June 20, 2025, the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed the convictions.
