Alabama Power Foundation Announces Upcoming Grant Cycles for Community and School Enrichment

Alabama Power Foundation Grant Application Cycles for Gateway, Power to Play Opening Soon

Montgomery, AL – Two Alabama Power Foundation grant programs are opening for applications in the coming weeks, offering financial support to municipalities and educational institutions across the state.

The Gateway Grant application cycle opens June 23 and will close on July 18. Designed to promote civic pride and community growth, Gateway Grants support towns and cities in enhancing economic development and cultural visibility. Grant funds—up to $2,500—may be used for projects such as new or refurbished signage, website development, and promotional materials for towns or city events.

  • Attracting visitors, residents, or businesses.

Gateway Grants previously funded initiatives in cities like Lanett, Ozark, Sylacauga, and Tallassee, where funds were used to install or restore welcome signs.

The Power to Play Grant cycle will open on July 28 and close on August 22. This program supports extracurricular programs—specifically in athletics, arts, and music—for Alabama students in grades K through 12. Like Gateway Grants, Power to Play grants provide up to $2,500, with awards going directly to schools or qualifying 501(c)(3) organizations.

Eligible applicants include:

  • Schools or nonprofit programs eliminating barriers to student participation in athletics.

  • Educators seeking support for arts or music programs.

  • Title I schools and those with 50% or more of students receiving free or reduced meals receive priority.

Grant recipients are required to submit a six-month progress update and a final report. Past recipients include Fairfield High Preparatory School, which acquired uniforms for its marching band, and McAdory High School, which added new weight bars to its athletic facility.
