ALEA Investigating Explosive Device in Montgomery

Montgomery, AL – As an update to the story originally released on Sunday, February 25th, per the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), on Saturday, Feb. 24, at approximately 3:42 a.m., an explosive device was detonated near the intersection of Washington Avenue and South Bainbridge Street, outside of the Alabama Attorney General’s Office in downtown Montgomery. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), along with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Mobile and the Alabama Attorney General’s Office, are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a person of interest that may have information related to this crime. Special Agents with ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) received notification of a suspicious package at approximately 8:19 a.m., on Monday, Feb. 26, and immediately responded to the scene and deemed the area safe. The suspicious package was confirmed as the device which was detonated on Saturday.

Troopers assigned to ALEA’s Protective Services Division and Special Agents assigned to ALEA’s Hazardous Device Unit (HDU), along with Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Officers from the Montgomery Police Department, also responded to the scene to assist.

No injuries or damage to nearby buildings were reported. Nothing further is available as the investigation remains ongoing.
