ALEXANDRIA — Todd Ginn pumped his fist to Alexandria’s packed home cheering section Friday.
After handshakes and interviews, the coach whose last name signals hallowed Valley Cub history channeled former Dallas Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson while approaching the team huddle.
“HOW ‘BOUT THM CUBS!’” he yelled, as the huddle surrounded him with raised helmets.
From his mid-July foretelling of his team’s rise as a state-title contender, to his emotional outpouring about his team at Calhoun County Quarterback Club Media Day, Ginn’s emotional displays are clocking a special season in The Valley.
Their 35-28 victory over reigning 5A state champion Moody on Friday signalled Signature Win O’Clock.
J.J. Beason rushed for 175 yards and two touchdowns, M.J. Morris came up with a crucial interception just before halftime, and Eli Kirby’s fourth-quarter fumble recovery stopped a would-be tying drive as Alexandria improved to 2-0 overall, 1-0 in Class 4A, Region 6.
