WEAVER, AL — Community members are invited to gather at Weaver Stadium on Friday, Sept. 11, for the Steps of Honor 9/11 Memorial Step Challenge, an event designed to remember the 2,977 people who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The challenge will begin at 9:11 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m. Participants are encouraged to complete 2,977 steps in remembrance of the 2,977 lives lost 25 years ago.
Organizers are promoting the event under the message “We Walk to Remember,” with each step intended to honor those who died and recognize the courage and sacrifice associated with the events of Sept. 11.
The event is open to all ages and is intended as a community remembrance, allowing participants to take part throughout the day at Weaver Stadium.
Attendees are also encouraged to bring additional money if they would like to contribute to the Weaver Fire Department and Weaver Police Department morale funds.
The Steps of Honor event is presented by the Alabama 250 Coalition. Robert Luna is listed as the point of contact for the event.
