ANNISTON, AL — The Public Library of Anniston-Calhoun County will host a presentation exploring the personal writings and scrapbooks of young Alabamians during the early 20th century.
The program, “Spaces of Self: Diaries and Scrapbooks of Young Alabamians,” will be presented by Haley Aaron on Tuesday, July 28, at 2 p.m. at the Public Library of Anniston-Calhoun County, located at 108 E. 10th St. in Anniston.
According to the event description, the presentation will examine how diaries and scrapbooks served as important outlets for young people during the early 1900s. At the time, young men and women were encouraged to document their daily lives, creating personal records that reflected their experiences, identities, and aspirations.
The talk will explore the development of childhood in Alabama and analyze how themes of learning, belonging, and personal growth are reflected in these historical primary sources.
The event is open to the public, and attendees can earn three rewards for participating.
