ANNISTON, AL — The City of Anniston has reported record-breaking economic gains for Fiscal Year 2024, with notable increases in business license registrations, construction investment, and municipal revenues. The data reflects one of the most dynamic periods of economic growth in the city’s recent history.
A total of 618 business licenses were issued in FY2024, representing a 61.35% increase over 2023’s total of 383. Since 2020, business license issuances have surged by 291.14%, more than tripling in four years. City officials attribute this uptick to a favorable business climate and increased interest from entrepreneurs and small businesses.
Anniston’s construction investment reached an all-time high of $57.24 million in FY2024—up 39.27% from the previous year. This marks a 295% increase compared to 2020, when the city recorded $14.49 million in construction investments. The significant growth spans both residential and commercial development, reflecting enhanced permitting efficiency and development strategies.
General Fund revenues have climbed more than 32% since FY2015, supporting essential public services and city initiatives. Sales tax revenue rose from $20.4 million in FY2015 to $28.18 million in FY2024—a 38.14% increase. Even in the past year, sales tax collections grew by nearly 1%, indicating steady consumer activity.
Mayor Ciara Smith commented, “The economic data from Fiscal Year 2024 paints a clear and encouraging picture: Anniston is growing—and not by chance, but by intention. The significant increases we’re seeing in business license registrations, construction investment, and municipal revenues are not only unprecedented in recent years—they are the direct result of our community’s resilience, our administration’s focus on fiscal stewardship, and the entrepreneurial spirit that defines Anniston.”
City officials believe the fiscal trends point toward long-term sustainability and continued growth. As Anniston builds on its current momentum, it is positioning itself as a leading example of municipal development and strategic planning in Alabama.
