Jacksonville, AL – The Jacksonville Police Department has announced that an arrest has been made in the death of Leah Tarvin, a Jacksonville State University struck by a vehicle late last year.
Tarvin was struck by a vehicle Nov. 2 while crossing Alabama 21 in front of Brewer Hall. The 22-year-old died of her injuries at UAB Hospital in Birmingham two days later.
Following her death, the Jacksonville Police Department began a traffic homicide investigation with the help of state troopers from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Jacksonville post. Police conducted an intensive investigation collecting the facts of this terrible tragedy, including the review of cell phone data, vehicle data, surveillance camera footage, multiple eyewitness interviews and consultation with experts in the field of GPS data.
Olivia Lowrey, 19, of Gadsden, was arrested June 28 and charged with criminally negligent homicide. Lowrey bonded out of the Jacksonville City Jail and has a court date set for Aug. 1 at 1 p.m.
